Farewell Old Friend
I walked into the living room this morning to make coffee, and noticed that our long time cat, Carl, wasn’t breathing. He was diagnosed with feline AIDS last summer. Many times when a creature dies, if it’s in pain, it will draw its knees in to its chest in the fetal position. Carl was outstretched and looked as if he were merely sleeping, so I know he hadn’t suffered. He ate dinner last night with as much excitement as he always does. Rigor mortis had already set in and his paws were cold, so I know that he died sometime in the night.
I said a quick prayer earlier and thanked God for allowing Carl to be with us for as long as he had been. Still, there’s just no shaking this sadness. Brianna laid him to rest just past these frozen leaves.
Frozen like our hearts.
aww so sorry for your loss Honey. They are such dear critters and we miss them so. I will say a prayer now and keep you lifted. I am glad he left so gracefully. Maybe he’s strumming a banjo in a three mouse jamboree. Say hi to King Scruffy Bear for me Carl. Blessings to you. xoxoxoxoxo

I am very sorry for your loss… I am really at a loss for words, these family members are unforgettable.
February 8, 2014 at 3:56 am
Yes they are. :0) He was so humble and thankful and showed it daily. He would show his thanks for a piece of meat, etc. by rubbing his head on the giver’s hand, and after doing that for a bit, only then would he take the food. Never saw anything like him before. He was special. Thanks so much for taking the time! That means a lot to me, O. Thank you. xo

I totaly get what you mean. I will never forget my Masha, never, and now I will think of Carl as well, like they are having a great big party somewhere out there.

So sorry he has gone B, but it is probably better for him that things didn’t get to the worst stages. Rest in Peace Carl. xxx

Thanks, Jenn. :0) And yes, probably better. He wasn’t in pain at all, so, for that we’re thankful.

Hey, thanks for your kind words, MV. We knew he didn’t have much time but it’s still always such a shock to the system, no matter how we prepare ourselves.
February 8, 2014 at 11:23 am
so true…someone else once said ” it’s something we all take on as pet owners” but we never quite can prepare enough

Aw, I am sorry Carl died. But I am sure you gave him a happy life.
February 8, 2014 at 11:46 am

I’m so very sorry to hear about Carl. To be honest, I had for some reason already thought he had passed. I had remembered his condition and a while back was thinking of him. One of the most beautiful and giving things to do for an animal is to truly care for them. Carl had a great life, was extremely comfortable, and died in a way many humans hope to go (in their home surrounded by love). I know losing a pet is like losing a family member, because that is exactly what they are. Just know I will be thinking of you guys ❤

I think we had much more time with Carl than we knew we would. It was hard to watch him become so weak, but we couldn’t feel good about euthanization as long as he was so excited to eat! I think when a person or animal shows life, excitement, and energy when it comes to eating, they still have enough bounce in their step to carry on. Carl loved to eat…heheh. Thanks for stopping by. ;0)

Glad he didn’t seem to suffer. Animals touch our hearts in amazing ways.

Yep. He went out peacefully.
