I think of Van Gogh, you know? When he was painting his browns and blacks and greys, everybody loved him. After he went batshit crazy and started painting in wild reds, yellows, blues, and greens- nobody would touch him. They didn’t understand it, because he was “breaking all the artistic rules “. Of course his paintings sell for millions each now, but that’s in part because people want to feel connected to him and “own” a piece of Van Gogh himself. But when he shot hisself in the stomach/abdominal area (and died 2 days later), he was penniless and still vastly unknown. But I love that he stepped out of the boundaries and societal conformities, creating his own genre of painting. That’s so badass. 😉
