The Green Fairy

So Josh and I finally decided to try Absynthe:

Absynthe

It’s a liquor that was banned for almost 100 years due to its psychoactive properties (which are brought on by the wormwood that it contains) and a curiously high percentage of alcohol by volume. In other words, it’s a rich man’s moonshine. You’re supposed to drizzle cold water over a sugar cube into 2 oz. of absynthe until there’s a  1:1 ratio of each. We’d never tried it before so we decided to test out a small bottle- lest we find ourselves running naked through the streets after giving it a whirl.

After the solutions are mixed, the lime green colour gives way to a milky white- opaque sort of greenish concoction that’s quite pretty. We really didn’t have enough to judge accurately, but after we’d both had 2 oz., we were pretty laid back. It didn’t make us feel tipsy at all in an alcohol-induced way- but we were strangely subdued. (Josh took the gorgeous pic above with the Lensbaby.)

I’ve been MIA from my blog for quite some time. I haven’t had much to say, but really, I’ve been on a serious sabbatical since graduating in May! And this will be a short entry due to my raging migraine at the moment. (Nothing to do with the absynthe. It’s hormonal.)

I pictured my extended vacation (before graduating) and I saw myself doing a lot of lounging around, catching up on Netflix and just being a glorified beach bum (sans the beach + a dirty river instead). In fact, I’ve done very little of that. I’ve already opened up my first Etsy shop- selling anything and everything that Josh and I make art-wise. He makes clay African heads which are totally badass and also some pretty freaking awesome computer chip earrings and necklaces made from old motherboards. I’m so impressed with his creativity. 🙂 We’ve worked super hard on opening the shop, gathering inventory, and working on our packaging/branding. I won’t announce it here- not yet- because we’re not where I want it to be yet. We’ve only got 15 items listed, so we’re not quite ready to roll out a grand opening. Soon! Also, we’re working on our 2nd shop, which will be nothing like the first one. The first one is a catch-all for anything that strikes our fancy, but the 2nd one is deliberate and focused. So, we’ll be announcing both shops at once in the next few months. And, as much as I hate FB- with every drop in my body (and haven’t been there in 6 years)- I’ve decided to rejoin so that I can do my necessary PR and networking for our shops. Without social media, any business is dead in the water, and you have to PR the shit out of something if you want it to sell- it’s just that simple.

So- in several months, we’ll be linking our two shops here, and also on Facebook and Twitter and all of that good stuff. It won’t be a “fan” account at FB, it’ll be my own name and personal account, but it will double as a PR machine for new pieces we add here and there.

We’re pretty excited about this new direction we’re taking. I knew I wouldn’t be able to freaking lay around doing nothing! That doesn’t really exist in my world.

More on everything later. I currently have a rabid (invisible) critter gnawing at my head and the only thing that’ll help at this stage is to fall blissfully into unconsiousness. So, be well all. I miss everyone. x

  1. I think nowadays’ absynthe is not exactly made of all the same ingredients as one century ago. Unless they want people to go crazy AF. LOL

    • Well, I must say, Y, I’m not super impressed with the absynthe. Probably because I don’t have Van Gogh to share it with, but Josh is close enough…ha. I’ll be in bed trying to be very still (for 2 more days) until this migraine has run its course, but will be all better after the 4th. The mail’s not running on Monday, so I’ll most likely be shipping out your goodies on Wednesday or so, but again, I’ll let you know that day. Hope your weekend’s a good one! x

    • I think part of the reason I wanted to open up an Etsy shop is becuase of you, Amy. I remember you asking if I had one about a year ago, and it made me think that maybe I should have one. So, thanks for that. :0) I hope you and your boys are doing great! x

      • Holy crap! Really?! I feel very honored to have any part of that! 🙂 You have so many talents and I’m glad we will get to see it! I am working on opening one myself. Well, I have one already, but not quite where I’d like it to be yet. HA!

      • I know the feeling. 😉 We should exchange Etsy shops (info.) when (if) we ever do get them to where we want them to be (someday). Ha… x

Take care . You can justly say you have been absinthe with just cause. 🙂

Don’t know if you are familiar with Over an Absinthe Bottle – A Short Story by W. C. Morrow. http://www.gutenberg.org/files/21616/21616-h/21616-h.htm#90

This was my first literary encounter with the fabled drink. I read a lot of ghost and classic mystery/supernatural anthologies when I was a teen. 😀

    • Thanks for linking me up. 🙂 I’ll have to check that out when I get a down moment. (Temporarily caring for a sick kitten- 3 have died in the past week and we’re trying to save the last one.) I’m betting if I’d have had a bit more of the absynthe it would have been somewhat more memorable. Or…maybe not, on second thought…heh…

    • So glad to see you again, Sean. 🙂 I’ve been away myself now for several months but am slowly crawling back to bloggie-land. I’ll be sure to stop by soon. Great seeing you, a always. 😉

    1. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! That is so freaking exciting for you guys! I’ll totally help get word out there for you guys when you have links to pass around.

    2. Your writing is always getting more lovely and it’s nice to read a smile on your face!

    3. I remember absinthe…had it a couple times, just can’t handle that flavor. It does give that ‘strange’ sensation that’s not really parallel to a classic alcoholic beverage buzz for sure.

    4. Things with Josh sound lovely and that pleases me quite! I’m glad you also had a bit of a sabbatical as long as it was enjoyable 😛

    5. I think there were originally only supposed to be 2 points here…but now there are 5.

    • Heya BB. So sorry it’s taken me so darn long to get back to you! I’ve been on a far away journey….ok…I haven’t been. I’ve been on the couch in my p.j.’s trying to kick an unsavory sugar addiction…haha…(the former just sounded so much more romantic, didn’t it?) But I’ve missed you. 🙂 Hope all has been well in your world! I’ll pop in in a few. 😉 xo

Girl, I’ve missed you too. I’m about to pop in on YOU! I’ve been in BED rather than the couch, but pj’s as well nonetheless while I’m in it!

      • I’ve been virtually living in my jammies for weeks- no apologies! 😉 I hope you’re doing well in the job market and aren’t stuck doing some crappy job that you hate. Good hearing from you again. 😉 x

  7. Amy

I hope the Absynthe didn’t take you away because you are missed in blog-land! But, then again, I am often absent myself! 😀

    • Hey, Amy. All is well. 😉 Just having a bit of a personal tragedy in the family. (You know how it goes. We catch breaks here and there…but only for a bit.) And so, during this time, I’m going to a quiet place- away from the riffraff of trouble-makers (not here in Bloggie-land, but OFFline) and shutting my door so that I can feel the walls embracing me. Waiting out the storm. 😉 You’re sorely missed though and I’ll be back sooner than later. Love ya! x

  8. Hey Birgitta!! It is been forever! This is Jenny (muffins&mocha) but I now started (Crafts & Camera) haha. I need to majorly catch up on your blog and photography. I got locked out of my other account somehow so I decided to start a new one. It is a good time to start over considering the fact that my divorce is over etc. I dunno about you but 2016 has been crap. I am so ready for it to be over. I am in college going for a Business Associates right now. I can’t even explain to you how horrific Business Ethics was this past semester. Let’s just say when the class was over, I burned the book. yeah….

I just saw that you are starting on an Etsy shop! What is your link if you don’t mind me asking? I would love the link to both of them. I have a shop but it is on vacation. I have gotten away from the photography due to feeling really depressed and not liking my camera. I should have never gotten a Nikon. I missed my Canon. So this year during a black Friday sale I got a Canon Rebel DSLR . I sold my Nikon for $350 a week ago. YES. hahahaha I am glad I got that out of my system. I never took good pictures with that camera. 😦

Right now what is happening is I did make a free Crafts & Camera site on wordpress but am also buying a template and making an actual webpage with hosting (with the help of my technical boyfriend). Whenever that is done I will send you the link! I’ve missed you girl! We really need to catch up. I am sorry it has been so long. This year has just been a lot. Hope you are doing good!

    • Duuuude…………!! I’ve totally missed you! I understand about taking a break. We all need to go away sometimes and soul-search, reorganize, and just get ourselves together. The internet has a way of polluting us, ya know? I truly believe that.(I’ve been on a 4 or 5 month hiatus myself.) But yes, I’ve missed the hell out of you. 🙂 So glad to hear that you’re in Business Ad! I think it’s wise to go for just your Associates first- that way, when the crap-storm hits (and you know it will), then you’ll at least have that under your belt and can take a break before going back in for your Bachelor’s. And I’m so glad to know that you’ve just bought another Canon. YES! 🙂 (Just got mine out of the pawn shop, so I feel ya on not having that for a while.) Right now, I’m shooting with my Canon Rebel (XSI- same as you), but am using old vintage film lenses that I attach to my digital camera via a special adapter. The film lenses are replicas of newer, more modern lenses- but are $350 cheaper. Seriously. You can save craploads of money going this route! Plus, your pics end up having this really cool, old-school texture that only film lenses can bring. So hey, I’ll post the links to my Etsy shops in a few- I’ll make a post in a minute here. Hope you have a great Christmas! And I’m SO glad your divorce is finalized. You have really gone through it over the past few years! So glad to see you’re finally catching a break. 😉 (And yes, 2016 TOTALLY SUCKED.) Hang in there with school, ok? I know you can do it. x
